Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the White River Hub Project necessary?
The White River Hub will allow for the efficient and economic handling of large volumes of regional natural gas to be transferred between multiple supply sources and interstate natural gas pipelines. The creation of this market center will enable natural gas produced in the Piceance and other Rocky Mountain producing basins to be transported and traded in physical and financial markets that would otherwise have been unavailable.

What new facilities are being proposed?
White River plans to construct and operate the following facilities:

  • about 6.5 miles of 30-inch-diameter pipeline, extending westward from the Greasewood Hub and a new interconnection (“tie-in”) with an existing 36-inch-diameter pipeline owned by Enterprise and connected to the Enterprise Piceance Plant;
  • a new tie-in with the Enterprise pipeline, including pig launching/receiving facilities and a new access road from County Road 5;
  • a new meter station at the Greasewood Hub end of the new pipeline, including a common header for interconnections with existing gas transporters at the Hub and pig launching/receiving facilities; and
  • other appurtenant facilities.

White River would also acquire from Enterprise about 3 miles of 36-inch-diameter pipeline, extending between Enterprise’s existing natural gas processing plant and the Rockies Express Compressor Station at Meeker.  All of the planned and existing facilities that constitute the White River Hub Project would be located in Rio Blanco County, Colorado.

In addition to the White River Hub facilities within the fenced area of the new meter station, Questar would construct and operate new compression facilities consisting of up to three reciprocating engine-driven compressors totaling 7,700 horsepower.  Equipment related to the compressor station would include gas coolers, a standby generator, and buildings to house the compressors and generators.

What does a meter station do?
Meter stations are installations containing equipment to measure the amount of gas entering or leaving a pipeline system and, sometimes, to regulate gas pressure.

How can I become involved in FERC’s review of the application?
Interested persons and organizations may file for intervenor status with FERC.  As an intervenor, you will receive copies of all correspondence filed in this proceeding and you will be required to serve all the other intervening parties with correspondence you intend to file.  For more information on how to become an intervenor, you can view and/or download the FERC publication An Interstate Natural Gas Facility On My Land?
